I decided to make a list of adaptations which I actually like better than the original. This is a rare thing, I am that annoying the book was better kind of person XD. But not always!

Here we go
• Cdrama Word of Honour/山河令, based on the novel Tianya ke by Priest. I wasn’t really into the novel, but the drama is great.

• LEGO Batman movie, based on DC comics, though inspiration was taken from multiple sources. This is unironically the best version of batman, especially in the German dub.

• The Jungle Book (1967 animation), based on Rudyard Kipling’s book of the same name. An elemental part of my childhood. If you noticed my King Louie icon, you probably guessed this :D

• Drei Männer im Schnee/Three men in the snow (1995 movie), based on Erich Kästner’s novel of the same name. The book is good, don’t get me wrong - but this movie is an iconic classic for a reason. Rewatching during winter holiday season is mandatory!

• The Muppet Christmas Carol, based on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Pretty much uncontested as the best version of this particular story, and rightfully so.

Such a good list!

That really can't be denied!

Muppet Christmas Carol for the win! I will watch any version of A Christmas Carol at least once, and some have been really, horrifically terrible, but the Muppets are defs number one. The songs! The humor!

Best runners up are the version with George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart.

I've never watched the LEGO Batman movbie because I wasn't super into the first LEGO movie. Everyone was saying how awesome it was and I was like, "It was okay?" XD But perhaps I should give it a try since Batman was the best part of that movie... XD

Uhh with Jungle Book you mean the old movie from the 60s right? Because I can't remember an animated one from the 90s. ;D

Muppet Christmas Carol is awesome!

The 1967 animated Jungle Book will always be one of my all-time favorite movies, for several reasons. And yes, it's the absolute best version of the story. The newer adaptations are no where near the quality of that movie either!! :D

Cdrama Word of Honour/山河令, based on the novel Tianya ke by Priest. I wasn’t really into the novel, but the drama is great.

I love both, but they're pretty different, I totally see how one might appeal when the other wouldn't!

(I miss the original fannish enthusiasm SHL engendered ... it seems to have entirely vanished now, alas.)

I am with you on Muppet Christmas Carol!

Love the idea of this list. One adaptation that I like better than the books was TV adaptation of "The Magicians." I read two of the books, but didn't read the third because the characters were just too insufferably pretentious. I thought the show made them way more interesting.

Tell me about it!

I do give new movies a chance... but I always end up disappointed.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a fantastic and wonderful adaptation of the source, and it manages to be both hysterical and scary by the time it is done.
