Klantis ruined the Voltron fandom for me for years. Even now, I stick mostly to Sheith fandom and vet every Klance shipper carefully - even though I actually ship it myself! But there's just so many of them! Everywhere!

I found a rec post for Twitter artists on Tumblr - all but one were Antis, openly, stated it right in their Bios!

Just yesterday I joined a Discord server, only to find it's run by the purity police. The source material is exactly the kind of 18+ problematic shit antis hate, what are they doing running a fan discord?!

SO infuriating. Fuck these people.

I honestly do not understand people like this?? If the source material has "bad content" then how can you love it? It reminds me of a certain part of the Captive Prince fandom policing content when the canon is a bag full of triggers.

And I'm also very >.> at anyone who openly declares themselves an anti. But I guess it does work to make sure we stay away from them!

It's mind-boggling, right? The source is 18+, but the fandom must be suitable for preschool children.
Even the dumbest anti must notice the discrepancy - so to me, this proves that anti behaviour is all posturing for Internet Morality Points. They don't even believe their own BS.

I've heard of Captive Prince. Seems like that fandom has some especially bad antis.

Captive Prince was a really chill fandom for a while and then got tense for a little bit when the concept of a purity police became a thing? And antis started with their entire "but the kids!" nonsense. But since it's been some years since the trilogy ended, it's back to being chill again since there isn't a big audience for antis to signal to and show moral superiority.

I saw a Tumblr post satirizing the idea of a "sex and murder" zine that didn't allow sex and/or murder content because that's just gross uwu and the notes identified multiple different real zines as the basis of the joke including stuff for IWTV, Hannibal and other seemingly not anti-friendly fandoms.

Oh god, feel you so hard on the Voltron stuff. I also ship Keith/Lance but like... the well is so fucking poisoned, crol. Re: Discord servers, I remember I was briefly in one once that was both strictly 18+ only and didn't allow you to talk about, or link to, nsfw stuff of any description. Like... what? They also had bizarre rules about the appropriate way to greet the mods and interact with them that felt lowkey cult-y, so I noped out of there pretty soon.

That sounds like big red flag, better nip that cult shit in the bud and leave asap.
I also heard some Discords make people send scans of their ID to the mods. I don't get why anyone would consider actually doing that, but god help them.

Yes! I've heard about that too. Jfc, I cannot believe that within my lifetime we've gone from "It's not safe to tell strangers on the internet your real name and location" to "The only way to ensure that we're all safe is to send strangers on the internet information that they could use to steal your identity"

I think it has a lot to do with many younger people never actually being taught online navigation and/or safety as skills.
They are assumed to learn by osmosis as "digital natives". Except that's not working so great.

Yeah, it really isn't! Even with stuff like where a lot of Gen Z are entering the work force/higher education and not being given help with learning necessary computer skills because it's assumed that they can figure it out/already know this stuff, but they're more likely to be used to phones and tablets than desktop computers.

Exactly! It’s often assumed that being younger automatically means being better with technology.
But then why do I have to help my 20-year-old colleagues with operating their laptops?

App-based mobile systems are very different from desktop PCs. There are people who don’t know how to copy a file, or make a folder – because phones try their very best to prevent you from doing such a thing!

Yeah, it's really unfair on everyone assuming that this is something that people don't need training or official support with! Like, even among people my age (mid-thirties) who are often considered the original digital natives, not everyone is au fait with computers! I grew up noodling on the family desktop and figuring out how to do things by myself, but my parents were early adopters and I was a nerdy introverted kid. I was also specifically taught how to touch type when I was seven by my dad, but, again, not everyone had this experience!

I'm a couple years younger and had a similar experience on the family PC :)
But we also had actual computer literacy classes at school - I wonder if that's still a thing.

I've never understood antis and I never will. I'm convinced that they just posture to be seen as so morally good with all their pearl clutching and "think of the children!" schtick, but in reality are you conservative assholes that like to oppress minorities of any kind. Hiding behind "The Children" is always the best way to push through truly questionable shit, trying to censor the internet in every way they can and in spaces where children... uhh, shouldn't even be?!

The purity police is indeed mind-bogglingly stupid and it has led to some truly hilrious and head-ache inducing insanities in fandom in the recent years. Someone up there mentioned the zines for clearly adult shows that forbid adult content. I saw those tumblr posts (that were mainly screenshots of twitter drama) and it was wild. Like... how?! Why?! If you're in, say, Hannibal fandom, why would you want to make a children-safe zine for it?! The fandom that is bydefinition chock-full of typical "problematic content"?! I 've tried to find that post again but I fear it's hanging around in my Likes somewhere... *sigh*
Still, I found this educational post with lots of handy graphics for all of us to check if we are ~~problematic~~. XD

I have somehow missed the Hannibal drama on tumblr. Must’ve been hilarious.

They really only use children if it fits their agenda - no abortion because that's a baby! But when the baby is actually born, no-one gives a fuck about accessibale education, health care, leave from work for the mother etc. Until they hit upon the evil porn on the internet, then they suddenly remember all these super important children... *eyeroll*

It's very very vague so i'd assume everyone would be like, "I'll keep it PG-13 just to be safe!" For... an IWTV zine. The show where the main character smashes his fist through someone's head. Okay then. XD
