My very first fanfic I wrote as a wee child of maybe six or seven. I had read Calico Bush by Rachel Field, and hated the ending. What do you mean, she wants to stay with the people who’ve been keeping her as an indentured servant/slave? Hell no. The whole book she wants to go home to France, so I wrote a fix-it where she does exactly that.

I don't think I ever showed this fanwork to anyone, and it has since been lost. But I remember surprisingly well what I wrote, and how indignant I was at the book's ending.

My niece, at about the same age, was grimly plotting How to Train Your Dragon 3 fix it fic, but I'm not sure if she ever wrote it.

Acho que todos nós fizemos longas e inúmeras fix-it após se deparar com finais nada agradáveis e divergentes do próprio conteúdo do cânone. Realmente como pôde alguém pensar que uma pessoa feita escrava não iria querer fugir e viver onde sempre sonhou? Mil vezes você ter feito a fic u.u

Haha! I love that your first fic was a Fix It of canon!

I never realized how much of my fandom life was spent fixing, or making myself, and others like me seen, until I started reading and watching things that were just... that. They were just how I envisioned, ended satisfyingly, and where I could see myself and others I cherish in the actual text.

It was a bit... well, it was a like disconcerting actually. How was I going to pay with all of that?!?

An excellent decision for your first fic, and at the age in which it makes perfect sense to write the kind of ending that the character clearly wanted, rather than the one the canonical author came up with.
