Challenge #10
In your own space, talk about one of your fandom firsts. This could be your first fandom, your first fandom friend, the first fanwork you created, the first fanwork you interacted with... The options are endless! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
My very first fanfic I wrote as a wee child of maybe six or seven. I had read Calico Bush by Rachel Field, and hated the ending. What do you mean, she wants to stay with the people who’ve been keeping her as an indentured servant/slave? Hell no. The whole book she wants to go home to France, so I wrote a fix-it where she does exactly that.
I don't think I ever showed this fanwork to anyone, and it has since been lost. But I remember surprisingly well what I wrote, and how indignant I was at the book's ending.

on 2025-01-19 09:16 pm (UTC)I never realized how much of my fandom life was spent fixing, or making myself, and others like me seen, until I started reading and watching things that were just... that. They were just how I envisioned, ended satisfyingly, and where I could see myself and others I cherish in the actual text.
It was a bit... well, it was a like disconcerting actually. How was I going to pay with all of that?!?
