Thai drama: KinnPorsche
Jul. 29th, 2023 12:32 pmThis series was hyped up on tumblr last year and it turns out they were on to something!
I had a great time with this one. The show knows its niche and it delivers exactly what it’s aiming for: Unapologetically horny, tropey fun. Glistening chests everywhere.
Put a big smile on my face :)
More notes/thoughts under cut
• The genre is best described as Gay Mafia. A mix of kidnapped by the millionaire and bodyguard romance with some blood and violence for good measure.
In the early episodes, there are many comedic moments (and some that are meant to be comedic but don’t actually land); later on, things get more serious. The more sincere parts made for a stronger story and I liked the middle/end parts much better than the beginning.
• I thought the main character’s name was Porsche like the car brand, but it’s actually not pronounced like that in the show - sounds more like Porsh or Posh.
Early on, Porsche doesn’t take his new job very seriously, playing childish pranks and refusing cooperation. He overdoes it a little – there’s being tough and then there’s being stupid. He is betting his life on Kinn finding him amusing enough to keep him around despite his antics. He’s lucky he’s pretty.
• I like that instead of one or both of them being a dick for no reason, the conflicts between Porsche and Kinn come from their genuinely different perceptions and backgrounds. They fancy each other but still can’t help hurting each other.
As they gain mutual understanding, their interactions become more playful. They discover that talking actually improves communication – who would have thought.
• Actual sex scenes my beloved ❤. And they’re very entertaining! The actors of Kinn and Porsche do a good job. You can tell how much fun the characters are having, and the joy they take in the intimacy.
• Thoughts on the siblings:
Kinn’s big brother Tankhun likes to party with his guards and was the heir before he became mentally unsound. Kinn half-jokingly speculates he might be faking to get out of his duty to the family, and he does seem surprisingly levelheaded in some later episodes. I totally believe he’s faking it and that makes him the sharpest member of the entire family. His life as the Crazy Relative is the best of both worlds – all the luxury, none of the responsibility.
The younger brother is Kim: The second smartest sibling, as he actually knows how to manipulate people. He is the love interest of Porchay, Porsche’s little brother. I’m gonna be honest, I did not care about these two lol.
• Pete: Porsche’s fellow guard and a Real Friend. This guy is haunted by bad luck, I swear. While Kinnporsche are a fluffy vanilla couple (after some dubcon hiccups), Pete gets a nocon/dubcon BDSM romance with cousin Vegas. Love the variety!
• I liked the other guards a lot too. Especially Arm, who doubles as IT guy.
