I skipped some challenges, but I actually did #7 and commented on some fics I read. Did not feel worthy of its own post though. Anyway, on to #9!

Challenge #9

In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have a fandom related and a personal thing I did last year.

1) I joined dreamwidth! I want to be more active in fandom communities and actually talk to people. I know it’s objectively not the most difficult thing to make a free account on a website. But I have a hard time coming out of my shell, so I’m proud of every little bit.

2) I took my boyfriend on a trip to Paris. I don’t travel often and this was actually the first vacation I planned and organized all by myself. So I was irrationally scared something would go wrong lol. Also my French is bad and rusty and I was scared it wouldn’t be good enough. But everything went great! Got Tintin merch out of it too.

Like I said at the comm these are great examples.

You should be proud because it sounds like you pushed yourself to do something scary both times.

I'm so glad the traveling worked out so well.

Hello and welcome to Dreamwidth! Lots of very fun people around, even if it sometimes takes some effort to find them.

Hooray on your trip, as well! Glad that your French was enough to get around with.

Yay for that! It sometimes can be a bit daunting to start a new account on an unfamiliar site. Finding new friends at the beginning also isn’t so easy. But I’ve found DW to be a fun site where one can post at their own pace, not algorithm and followers demanding content etc. It’s kinda chill and also easier to have actual conversations.
I do tend to feel the need to make longer posts here, though. XD

Congrats on planning a successful trip! I’ve never been to Paris and can’t speak the language at all. XD But I think it would be a lovely trip to see the sights – it’s even easily reachable from where I live, I could go by train. I’ve always enjoyed planning holiday trips. :D

>> I joined dreamwidth! <<

Go you! I hope it's working out for you.

>> I want to be more active in fandom communities and actually talk to people.<<

Some things that might help:

* [community profile] twitter_refugees has many resources for people new to Dreamwidth.

* [site community profile] dw_community_promo is a place to find newly created communities.

* [community profile] followfriday has lists of active communities by theme.

* [community profile] allbingo is a good bet if you enjoy creative bingo. It hosts a new fest every month. Next up will be Valentines in February.

* Watch for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth April 25-May 15. It's another big event where you could make new friends.

* Some communities are general-purpose and good for chatting. Others have a much narrower focus and only do fic recs or icons or whatever. Check the bio page and any sticky posts to see which are which -- often it will specify somewhere.

>> I know it’s objectively not the most difficult thing to make a free account on a website. But I have a hard time coming out of my shell, so I’m proud of every little bit.<<

Making an account is easy. Maintaining it over time is more challenging.

Some folks find it helpful to set recurring posts to boost activity. These can be general things like a weekly update, or specific based on your favorite topics.

We worry about so many things that we could handle even if they came to pass. I think humans really are just apes with anxiety. Brains. Why.

Welcome to DreamWidth, and I hope you stick around for the Friending Meme tomorrow!
